Functions

The standing committee of the EIDO has the following functions:

  • Apply the University of Vigo's Doctoral Studies Regulations
  • Issue a favourable or unfavourable report on the proposals of the academic committees for new doctoral programmes, or for their modification and temporary or permanent suspension, and forward this report to the EIDO management committee
  • Request from the academic committees all the updated information that makes up the doctoral programme, including lines of research, training activities, list of research staff, tutors and doctoral thesis supervisors, and student admission and selection criteria.
  • Report on the relevance of agreements or internationalisation programmes signed by the University of Vigo that affect doctoral studies.
  • Communicate proposals for collaboration agreements to develop doctoral programmes in collaboration with external entities and doctoral theses under joint supervision.
  • Establish the procedure for each doctoral student to record in their personalised activity document all actions carried out that are relevant to their doctoral training.
  • Determine the procedure for awarding the cum laude distinction.
  • Authorise the thesis to be written in a language other than Galician, Spanish, English or Portuguese, or other than the language commonly used in the scientific, technical or artistic field in question, after the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme (CAPD) has given a favourable opinion and guaranteed that the examination board is in a position to assess it.
  • Allow the public defence of the doctoral thesis or, where appropriate, the interruption of its processing, which shall be communicated in writing to the doctoral student, the thesis supervisors and the corresponding CAPD.
  • Approve the panel proposal submitted by the CAPD, in accordance with the University of Vigo's Doctoral Studies Regulations.
  • Authorise participation by videoconference in doctoral thesis panels.
  • Monitor and supervise theses carried out under joint supervision.
  • Propose to the rector the panel or panels responsible for drawing up the proposal for the award of special doctoral prizes.
  • Set and publish annually the evaluation criteria for awarding special doctoral prizes.
  • Establish the criteria governing the constitution of the committees responsible for drawing up the proposal for the award of special doctoral prizes
  • Send the proposal for the awarding of special doctoral honours to the General Secretariat for approval by the Governing Council.
  • Resolve requests for recognition of credits earned in programmes under previous regulations or at other universities, as well as the accreditation of studies for the purposes of admission to a doctoral programme.
  • Authorise, where appropriate, temporary leave of absence requested by doctoral students and reported by the relevant academic committees.
  • Establish the criteria for distributing the budget allocated to the EIDO.
  • Develop the procedure for processing and approving the internal regulations of the academic committees of the doctoral programmes.
  • Other matters expressly entrusted to it by delegation by the steering committee.
